I finally talked back at the filler episode hate club

Some guy in our Discord chat kept calling every non-manga scene a waste of time. I brought up the beach episode from episode 47 of our current show, where the whole cast just sits around and talks about nothing important. He said it was 20 minutes of dead air that added nothing. I told him that scene gave us the one quiet moment where the quiet character finally laughed out loud, and that stuck with me more than any fight scene. Is it really filler if it changes how you see a character for the rest of the season?
