Dropped $85 on a "universal" dryer belt kit that fit zero dryers
Bought one of those universal dryer belt kits from a supply house in Reno last month because I was tired of keeping 6 sizes on the van. The kit claimed it fit 200+ models but the tensioner arm on a Maytag MEDB835 didn't line up with any of the 4 belts in the box. Ended up eating the $85 and going back to keeping individual belts on hand. Anyone found a brand that truly works as a one size fits all or is that just marketing?
That "fit 200+ models" claim is doing a lot of heavy lifting. My buddy ran into the same thing with a Whirlpool cabrio, the belt was the right length but the ribs were spaced wrong so it slipped under any real load. He ended up swapping it in a customer's laundry room and had to come back the next day with the right one, ate the cost on both trips. Far as I know there's no true one size fits all, the universal kits just cover a range and hope the tensioner takes up the slack. Some dryers the tensioner has enough travel, some it doesn't, and Maytags seem to be the worst for it. Keep the six sizes on the van, it's cheaper than the callbacks.
