My in-laws save every broken toaster and blender for my visits and it's driving me nuts.

But what if they just see you as the person who can fix things? That kind of trust is a big deal in some families. It means they really see you as a useful part of the family, not just an in-law. Honestly, I'd take that over them ignoring me or acting like I'm not there. It's their weird way of saying they count on you.

Totally, my wife's family does that with me and painting stuff. They'll text me pictures of peeling trim like "is this bad?" and I'm just happy they ask.

God, my dad does the same thing but with old bike parts. His garage is just stacks of cracked helmets and handlebars from like 1998 because "someone might need them." Dude, nobody is ever going to need a bent gear shifter.
