Thermostat gaskets are a waste of time on older fridges

Been doing this 9 years in Cleveland and I still see guys replacing those rubber gaskets every call. I pulled one off a 2004 Kenmore last week, the seal was crusty but the fridge held temp fine. The real fix is cleaning the condenser coils and checking the door hinge alignment. Anyone else skip the gasket swap and go straight for the actual issue?
