Vent: My ice maker died on July 4th and took the whole party mood with it

Opened the freezer to grab ice for drinks and found a block of ice the size of a brick fused to the tray, had to chisel it out with a butter knife while my brother-in-law watched and said 'you fix these for a living right?'

you fix these for a living right?" lmao classic. That's the worst, having a guest watch you struggle while making jokes. My fridge did the same thing last summer, just a solid block of sadness on the Fourth. Had to break out the hair dryer to melt the tray loose, which took forever and my drinks got warm anyway.

you fix these for a living right?" - that line gets me every time too. Actually just read a article from some consumer reports thing about how modern fridges are worse at ice making because they're designed cheaper. You'd think they'd at least make the ice maker not freeze into a brick every time the power flickers. Had the same problem last summer during a heatwave, ended up using a hot washcloth wrapped around the tray for like 15 minutes. By the time I got it free, half the ice was just a slushy mess anyway.
