My climbing rope got stuck in a cedar tree 50 feet up last Tuesday

Took me 3 hours with a throw line and a slingshot to get it free. Anyone else ever have a rope just disappear into a crotch and refuse to cooperate?

Haven't you ever just let the rope sit overnight before trying? I've had that happen with cedar trees at least three times, and I swear the tree grabs it tighter the more you yank. A slingshot is fun but honestly a long stick or a weighted throw bag works better for me. I just leave it for a day, come back when the condensation dries out, and it usually slides right out. Sometimes you gotta work WITH the tree, not against it.

100% agree on working with the tree. Had a rope get stuck in a pine last fall, kept yanking it and it just got worse. Came back the next morning after some rain and it practically fell out. Now I just go home if it's stubborn.
