Worst day I've had in 14 years on the job was last Wednesday

My chainsaw kicked back on a dead ash tree in Oak Park because I didn't check for a metal fence post buried in the trunk, sent me to the ER for 11 stitches and now I'm rethinking every shortcut I've ever taken, anyone else had a close call that made you slow down?

bro that's rough, I feel you hard on this one. I had a 2x4 kick out of a table saw on a humid day last summer and clipped my thumb, took 9 stitches to put it back together, and now I triple check every board for knots and tension before I even turn the saw on anymore. it's crazy how one stupid mistake can wake you up to all the little things you were blowing off for years.

Bet you show it off at parties like "yeah, this is the one that taught me to actually read the grain before I pull the trigger on a cut." I swear, table saws have a sixth sense for when you're feeling cocky or distracted. My buddy did something similar with a miter saw and now he's got this weird ritual where he taps the blade guard three times before every cut like he's summoning a safety spirit or something. Funny how cheap tuition in the school of hard knocks always costs a piece of your thumb.
