Cracked a 2,000 year old pot shard with a wet brush, my bad

Doing some volunteer sorting at the local dig site near Dayton last Saturday. They trust me with the cleaning table, which is usually just dusting off rocks. Got a big piece of what they think is a storage jar from a Roman villa site. Soaked it like the guide said, and started brushing. Too much pressure. Cracked right down the middle. Supervisor just sighed and said "good thing it was already broken." They glued it back with some kind of resin, looks fine. But I felt like a donkey. Any of you volunteers have a mishap where you did more damage than the last 1,800 years did?
