Serious question, I skipped the museum's King Tut show in Chicago to dig at a site near Springfield and I'm still not sure I chose right
Two months ago I had a ticket to the big Tut exhibit at the Field Museum for a Saturday, but the same day a local group offered me a spot sifting dirt at a Mississippian site about 3 hours south near Springfield. I took the dig and ended up finding a piece of shell temper pottery that the site lead said was maybe 800 years old, which felt huge until a buddy sent me photos from the exhibit and I got a little jealous. Has anyone else traded a sure thing like a big museum show for a muddy field day, and did it feel worth it after?
Calling it a "Serious question" is pretty funny when the whole thing was a hobby day either way. You had a free Saturday and two fun choices, that is not a life crisis. The Tut show is a traveling exhibit that will come around again in some city, but that pottery shard came out of the ground once and you were the one holding it. So yeah, the dig was the better pick, no question. The jealousy will fade the second you stop looking at your buddy's photos. It only feels like a trade because you let other people tell you which one was supposed to matter more.
