My $12 rice cooker quit mid-batch on Sunday and I ate cereal for dinner
It just stopped heating about 10 minutes in, no light, nothing, and I stood there staring at half cooked rice like an idiot. Has this happened to anyone else, and is it even worth trying to fix or should I just toss it?
Did you check the fuse inside the plug? Mine did the EXACT same thing, quit about 10 minutes in with no light, and I almost tossed it. Turns out the little thermal fuse near the heating plate had blown, which is a safety thing they put in so it does not catch fire when the pot overheats or boils dry. I opened the bottom (just a few screws), found the blown fuse, and twisted a new one in from a hardware store for about 3 bucks. That was two years ago and the thing still cooks rice fine. If you are not handy with a screwdriver then yeah, just toss it and grab a new one, but if you are even a little bit curious it is worth a look before it hits the trash. Just make sure you UNPLUG it first and never swap the fuse for a plain wire, that is how people burn their kitchens down.
