Overheard a guy at the coffee shop explain why he never tips for pickup orders

I was waiting for my latte last Tuesday and this dude was lecturing his friend about how tipping for takeout is just throwing money away, since nobody is serving you. He said he only tips when someone brings food to his table, and even then it's like 10 percent max. It got me thinking about how arbitrary my own tipping rules are, I tip for haircuts and deliveries but I'm all over the place with counter service. Made me realize I've probably handed over way too much cash for bagels I grabbed myself over the years. Anyone else have a weird tipping line you draw that you can't really justify?
