Court filing deadlines surprised me more than I expected
I always assumed lawyers had tons of leeway with deadlines, then a friend in litigation showed me a local rule where missing a filing by even one day can get your case dismissed in some counties. Found it buried in the federal rules site while helping him prep. Has anyone else been burned by a procedural rule they never knew existed?
Man, that sounds like bad advice dressed up as a warning. Most lawyers miss a deadline here and there and get extensions all the time, so one late filing scaring you off seems way overblown. Have you actually seen a case get tossed just for that, or was it more the exception than the rule?
