Hit 200 signed affidavits this month, then realized my error rate
I do intake paperwork for a small estate firm in Tucson. Last Tuesday I hit my 200th notarized affidavit for the month and felt proud. Then I spot checked the last 15 and found 3 had the wrong property description on line 6. That is a 20 percent mess up rate on a document that judges read literally. Did I get sloppy because of volume, or is this just a normal part of the job that nobody talks about?
That "20 percent mess up rate" hits close to home because I see it everywhere, like when a cashier scans so fast they miss the coupon or a cook plates 50 dishes and forgets the salt on one. Speed makes our hands move ahead of our eyes and the brain just fills in what it expects to see instead of what's actually there. The fix is boring but it works: slow down right at that one line, every single time, even when your brain is screaming that you already checked it.
