Why I ditched Procreate for Krita despite everyone loving Procreate

Tbh I got tired of paying $10 every time Apple changed the ecosystem, so I went with Krita on my Surface Pro. Took me about 3 weeks to get used to the brush engine but now I can export straight to PNG without any subscription nonsense. Has anyone else dealt with switching tablets and losing your whole tool setup?

Took me three years to realize a budget app was worth the money, now I get it

I used to think budgeting apps were a scam. I mean why pay $10 a month when a spreadsheet does the same thing, right? Last month my crew and I had a slow week in March with barely any jobs coming in. I sat down and added up all my small tool purchases from the last year and it came to $600 just on stuff I forgot I bought. That hit me hard. So I signed up for YNAB and it caught that I was bleeding cash on random trips to the hardware store. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized a subscription saved you more than it cost?

PSA: Most people mistake satellite glint for chemtrails

I live near an airport in Denver and kept seeing these weird streaks that people online swore were chemicals being sprayed. Took me like 3 weeks of logging timestamps against flight radar data to realize it's just sunlight reflecting off jet contrails at certain angles. You can test this yourself by checking a plane's position on FlightAware when you see a bright flash - it lines up every time. The fake chemtrail posts never show that data because it falls apart under scrutiny. Anyone else notice how these videos conveniently skip the tracking receipts?

Old inspector told me to stop using dielectric grease on cannon plugs

Guy with 40 years in the military said the grease traps moisture and causes corrosion over time, especially on j products out of Phoenix where the humidity spikes. Switched to dry contact cleaner only and haven't had a single pin issue in 6 months, anyone else ditch the grease?

My brother in Austin made me see why people burn books they don't agree with

Last Saturday my brother brought up the whole "Fahrenheit 451" thing while we were grilling. He said the real reason people ban books isn't because they hate ideas, it's because they love their own ideas too much. That got me thinking about how I used to just call anyone who wanted a book removed a close-minded fool. He pointed out that even I have lines, like when I complained about that kids book with graphic violence at the school library. So now I'm stuck wondering where the line really is between protecting kids and censorship. Makes me feel like I don't have this figured out as clearly as I thought. Anyone else ever change their mind about a book ban after talking to family?

My poli sci prof told me 'free speech dies when you coddle the loudest' in 2018

Back in my sophomore year at UT Austin, Professor Hendricks said that during a lecture on campus protests. I thought he was just being dramatic. Fast forward to last spring when some group tried to shut down a speaker with a bullhorn outside the student union. The admin basically let it happen to keep the peace. Now I get what he meant. Anyone else have a prof who predicted this stuff years ago?

Finally got a laser tool that I actually use

I was real skeptical about buying a laser level for setting elevator guide rails, figured it was just another gadget to collect dust. Picked up a cheap Bosch self-leveling one on a whim last month and it saved me like 2 hours on a single job downtown. Can't believe I waited so long, anyone else have a tool they were dead wrong about?

That time I posted a climate change meme in 3 different countries and only 1 banned it

I tried sharing a pretty mild meme about rising sea levels in local subreddits for the US, UK, and Australia last month. The US and UK versions stayed up fine, but the Australian one got flagged within 2 hours for 'misinformation' even though it just showed a graph from NOAA. I guess the free speech line moves depending on where you post, which is kind of wild. Has anyone else noticed certain topics getting banned way faster in one country vs another?
