I finally asked a lawyer about that $600 security deposit my old landlord in Austin kept, and the answer took 4 minutes
Turns out small claims in Travis County costs about $54 to file and landlords fold fast once they get the notice, so if you're sitting on a deposit you wrote off as gone, has anyone here actually gone through with filing and was it worth the afternoon?

Did your lawyer mention whether the landlord can drag it out by just not showing up to court? Curious because a buddy of mine got a default judgment but then had to pay extra to actually collect the money. Filing is the easy part, getting paid is where it can get ugly.
