My attorney said file small claims for $1,800, my buddy said just eat the loss
A contractor in Fort Worth took my $1,800 deposit for a fence back in March and then stopped answering his phone. I went back and forth on whether to pay a lawyer $300 an hour or just file in small claims court myself for around $60. My friend kept saying it wasn't worth the hassle, but I filed the paperwork at the Tarrant County court anyway and the guy actually paid up two weeks before the hearing date. Curious if anyone here has gone the small claims route before, did the other side ever actually show up to fight it?

Paying a lawyer $300 an hour for $1,800 makes no sense, my cousin did the same thing over a $900 deposit and the guy never even showed.
