Question about the mediation costs I ignored for 2 years in Austin

I kept telling clients to skip mediation because the $350 hourly fee seemed like a rip-off, but then my own landlord dispute dragged on for 14 months and cost me triple in filing fees and lost weekends. The mediator found a compromise in 4 hours that I could have reached myself if I had just listened to their process from the start. Has anyone else found that mediation actually pays for itself, or am I just unlucky with the one case that worked?
