Vent: my $200 consult with a lawyer was ten times more useful than the free one I got first
Two months ago I got hit with a demand letter over a fence I built that crossed about 8 inches onto a neighbor's lot. First I did the free 20 minute consult through a legal aid hotline, and the guy rushed me off the phone in 6 minutes without even asking to see the letter. Last Friday I paid $200 cash for a 45 minute sit down with a real estate attorney here in Wichita, and she actually read the whole thing line by line. She pointed out the neighbor's own survey was from 2004 and never got recorded with the county, which the free guy never mentioned. She also told me the demand was basically a bluff because nobody had filed anything yet. Has anyone else paid for a consult and felt like the free version was a total waste of time, or did I just get unlucky with the hotline?
