Found out my telescope mirror is older than my grandpa

I was cleaning my 12-inch Dobsonian last week and spotted a date scratched on the back of the mirror... 1968. Looked it up, it's a custom from some guy in Tucson who passed away in the 70s. That mirror has seen more star parties than I ever will... anyone else ever dig up a surprise history on their gear?

Buddy of mine grabbed an old C8 off Craigslist a few years back. Inside the corrector cell, tucked behind the dew shield, was a faded envelope with a kid's drawing of Saturn and a letter to "Santa" asking for a telescope. The date on it was 1979. He still has it taped inside the case, says it's his favorite part of the setup.
