My sister's simple advice made a tough paint match job click

I was working on a 70s pickup with a faded blue paint job. The customer wanted a spot repair without a full respray. I mixed three different shades but it still looked off. My sister stopped by the shop to drop off lunch. She saw me staring at the panels and said, 'Why not add a bit of white like you do with house paint?' It sounded silly but I gave it a shot. That tiny adjustment made the blend seamless under the shop lights. I felt a huge wave of relief and called her over to see. It's funny how a fresh pair of eyes, even from outside the trade, can solve a stubborn problem.

It's wild how getting too focused on the details can make you miss the easy answer. Like with the paint, someone outside the field just sees the color mismatch without all the technical noise. That's why those outside ideas cut straight to the fix.

That feeling when you're stuck on something for hours and a simple outside idea just clicks it into place is the best. Had a similar thing trying to balance flavors in a sauce once, my roommate who doesn't cook walked by and suggested one thing that fixed it. Sometimes you're just too deep in the weeds to see the obvious fix, and a fresh pair of eyes cuts right through it. Really cool that your sister could help you nail it like that.

Seriously, calling a friend over usually gives me the new angle I need.
