Finally compared impact sockets to chrome sockets after 6 years on the job

I always used chrome sockets on my 1/2 inch impact gun cause they were cheaper and I had them lying around. Last Tuesday I finally picked up a set of impact sockets from the parts store for like 40 bucks. The difference in how they grip the bolt heads is honestly night and day, no more slipping or rounding off edges even on rusty suspension bolts. I feel kinda dumb for waiting so long, especially after I had to extract a stuck caliper bracket bolt that took me an extra 30 minutes with the chrome ones. Has anyone else noticed a big jump in work quality just from using the right tool for the job?

Oh man you are speaking my language. I did the exact same thing for years, thought I was being smart by saving money and just using whatever sockets I had. Then I grabbed a cheap set of impact sockets on sale and it blew my mind how much less cussing I did after that. That grip difference is real, especially on those rusty bolts where you can feel the chrome ones just start to slip and you know you are in for a bad time. It is funny how the right tool can save you time and frustration even if it costs a little more upfront. You ever look back at a job you struggled with and wonder how much easier it would have been if you just had the proper tool from the start?

Dude I had a buddy who tried to change his brake pads with a regular socket and a hammer because he didn't want to buy a caliper tool. He spent like three hours cussing and bending the bracket before he gave up and borrowed mine. He said he would have saved himself a whole afternoon and a bruised knuckle if he just spent the twenty bucks.
