Hot take: a kid at the parts counter in Tulsa asked why I still tap bolts by hand and it got under my skin
Last week I was picking up a water pump in Tulsa and the guy behind the counter, maybe 22, watched me thread a bolt in by hand before grabbing a ratchet and asked why I bother since impact guns are faster. I told him you feel the first two threads grab, and if they don't, you just saved yourself a helicoil job. He shrugged and said nobody at his old job ever did that. I've been chewing on it since, not because he was rude, but because somebody skipped teaching him and that's on all of us. Anybody here run into new techs who never got shown the basics?
