I finally moved my car cross country and the transport driver scraped my door in Salt Lake City, so do I fight it or eat the $800?
Hired a broker back in March to move my Subaru from Portland to Austin, and the actual carrier they farmed it out to showed up 4 days late with a beat up trailer. Somewhere around Salt Lake City the driver clipped a pole at a truck stop and put a 10 inch scrape down my passenger door, then tried to tell me it was there before pickup. I took 30 photos at pickup and he signed the bill of lading with no damage noted, so the broker says file a claim but the carrier is offering me $250 to just go away. Part of me wants to take the $250 and stop stressing, the other part says hold out because I have the paperwork on my side. Anyone actually gotten a carrier to pay out on a damage claim like this, or did you end up eating it?

Why would you take $250 when you have signed paperwork and 30 photos on your side? In my experience that $250 offer is just the carrier testing to see if you will fold cheap, and once you cash that check you are likely signing away the rest of your claim. Your mileage may vary, but I would file the claim and push for the full $800 since the bill of lading with no damage noted is the whole ballgame here.
