Thought those $99 door to door car haulers were a total scam until I tried one from Phoenix to Chicago
I always figured the guys advertising cheap door to door car shipping were just brokers who would take my deposit and vanish. Two winters back I had to get my dad's old Tacoma from Phoenix up to Chicago and the big name enclosed carriers wanted $1,400, so out of desperation I called a smaller guy who quoted $680. He showed up in a beat up 3 car hauler, loaded it, and had it at my place in Berwyn in 5 days with zero damage, plus he texted me a photo from a truck stop in Amarillo when I asked how it was going. Now I'm wondering if I just got lucky, did anyone else have a good run with these smaller haulers or did I dodge a bullet?
Man I had almost the same thing happen with a guy out of Tucson a few years back. Quoted me 750 to bring a Ranger to Minneapolis when everyone else wanted 1600 and up, and I figured the truck would show up on a flatbed missing a bumper. Guy calls me from a diner in Kansas, sends pics, rolls in two days early, not a scratch on it. The way I see it, the small guys live and die by word of mouth so they actually pick up the phone and treat the car like it matters. The big brokers just farm it out to whoever bids lowest and you never talk to the person actually driving. Sounds like you found a good one, I'd hang onto his number for next time.
