Can we talk about the buyer who wrote his offer on the back of a receipt at a diner in Reno
Twelve years back I was trying to sell my first little software tool and met this guy named Dale for breakfast at a diner off Virginia Street in Reno. I had a whole pitch ready and he just listened, stirred his coffee, and said "I don't need the features, I need to know you'll still be here in two years." He wrote his offer on the back of the receipt, $4,000 for a year, and signed it with a pen he borrowed from the waitress. That one line changed how I run every deal I do now, because turns out most buyers aren't shopping for software, they're shopping for someone who won't vanish. Back then I was mailing demo disks and doing support on a landline, so staying put was the whole pitch. Now I lead with that promise first and the product list second. Curious if other folks here have had a buyer say something plain that rewired how you sell.
