Dropped $180 on a ultralight tent footprint and it ripped day two

I finally saved up for that fancy polycro ground sheet everyone raves about for the Pacific Crest Trail. First real campsite on the Gila River loop and a sharp rock poked right through it. The thing cost me $180 and it didn't even last two full days. I should have just used a cheap tarp from the hardware store for like $20. Anyone else have a pricey gear item fail on them fast like that?

180 bucks for a piece of plastic that popped faster than a party balloon? That hurts. Bet you could have bought a whole roll of window film and made like ten of those things for the same price. Guess the "ultralight" part means it gives up the ghost the second you look at it wrong. Hope that rock felt real good about itself for winning that round. Live and learn I guess, now you know why the cheap tarp crew never shuts up about it.

One hundred and eighty dollars for a glorified trash bag.
