Went back to the PCT near Donner Pass last weekend and found something wild

I hiked the same 3 mile stretch I did five years ago and the trail markers were completely different. They replaced the old wooden posts with these metal ones that blend right into the trees. Caught me off guard because I was relying on memory and took a wrong turn twice. Has anyone else run into trail markers getting swapped out on a familiar route?

Honestly, same here up near Tahoe, I missed a turn and ended up a mile off trail because those stupid metal ones blend right in.

Go with what you said, it's a real pain. Those metal markers are harder to spot in low light or fog too. Makes me wonder if they even tested them before swapping everything out.
