My sourdough starter died while I was on vacation in Myrtle Beach for 9 days
I left my starter in the back of the fridge thinking it would be fine, but when I got back on Sunday it had a layer of gray water on top and smelled like nail polish remover. I dumped half of it and fed it with King Arthur bread flour twice a day for 4 days straight and it came back to life, barely. Now I'm wondering if I should have just dried some out before I left, has anyone had luck reviving a starter that went that long without a feed?
Reminds me of that time I left a banana in my gym bag for a week and it turned into pure liquid. Some stuff just can't handle being abandoned, but sounds like yours pulled through. Nail polish smell is rough, but if it's bubbling again you probably saved it.
