Took me 2 years to realize my oven rack was upside down

I kept burning the bottoms of my cakes no matter what temp I used, and the tops stayed pale and underdone. Last weekend my sister visits and just looks at the rack, flips it over, and says 'there, that's not how that goes'. All this time the wires were pointing up and blocking the heat from circulating right around the pan. My first test cake after that came out evenly golden in 28 minutes instead of the usual 35. Anyone else ever have a simple fix like this that changed everything in your kitchen?

gonna be honest, i dont get how an upside down rack changes that much. like, the wires are still mostly flat, just with a different curve on top. heat is gonna get through either way, ovens arent that picky. i flip my racks around all the time depending on what i shove in there and my cakes come out fine. maybe your oven is just uneven and you got lucky with the timing this time. 28 vs 35 minutes isnt exactly night and day either, coulda been the ingredients or the pan. not saying you didnt have a problem, just saying people blame the weirdest stuff instead of just learning their oven.
