Fell for the 'free debit card design' upsell at my credit union, cost me $5 a month for 6 months before I noticed

I mean, it wasn't much money in the grand scheme but I was at my local credit union in Portland opening a new checking account and the teller was like 'oh you can pick any design for your card, but the cool ones are $5 a month.' I thought it was a one time fee. Six months later I'm looking at my statement and see $5 coming out every month for 'card personalization fee.' So $30 total for a stupid picture of a mountain on my debit card. Anyone else get tricked by some recurring fee that sounded like a one time thing?

You gotta call them and ask for a supervisor, they'll usually refund those fees if you kick up a fuss about how it wasn't clear. Check your account terms too, sometimes you can just order a plain card to stop the charge.

Exactly right - I did the same thing and got three months of fees reversed after a quick call. It's wild how fast they refund it when you actually push back.
