I ignored the bank manager's warning about the ATM deposit limit and got burned

Last month, a Wells Fargo manager told me their ATM only accepts 30 bills per deposit. I figured he was being cautious. Jammed 45 twenties in there on a Saturday afternoon. Machine ate my deposit, gave me a generic error, and I spent 3 business days on the phone proving I actually put $900 in. Never again. Has anyone else had an ATM just swallow their cash and play dumb?

Man, did they at least give you a straight answer when you finally got through or did you have to threaten to close your account first?

Yeah, "generic error" is bank speak for "we have your money, good luck proving it." I honestly think ATMs are programmed to just eat your cash and play stupid whenever they sense you're in a hurry. You jammed 45 bills in there and expected a machine from 1998 to handle it gracefully? Bro, that's like shoving a whole pizza in a toaster and being surprised when it catches fire. At least you got your money back, but three days of phone tag with Wells Fargo sounds like a nightmare I'd rather not relive.
