Warning: I spent $300 on a bunker's worth of canned beans for a 'grid down' scenario

Okay but how likely is a total grid collapse really? I see people buying all this stuff for doomsday, but most emergencies are way more boring, like a bad storm or a power outage for a few days. A basement flood seems way more common than the end of the world. Maybe we should prep for the Tuesday problems, not the zombie apocalypse ones.

Serious question, my phone map failed in a Beijing hutong and I had to ask for help

Oh totally, I read a blog post about this exact thing, and @andrewt41's story really proves it.

Had to choose between a new pump or a full engine rebuild on the old cutterhead dredge last month. Went with the pump, and it was the wrong call.

Our 2018 cutterhead project proved the rebuild is cheaper long-term.

Just finished my 100th repair job and the number shocked me

Ever notice how water damage makes the pages feel weird and crunchy? I had a library book get left in a wet gym bag once and it never really recovered. That kind of damage just feels like a lost cause to me.

I always thought my coffee habit was cheap, but the numbers proved me wrong

Totally get it, my lunch takeout habit did the same thing to me. I started packing my own food four days a week and it saved so much. The trick for me was making big batches of stuff I actually like on Sunday, so grabbing it was easier than ordering. It felt annoying at first, but now my wallet is way happier.
