I picked a local credit union over Chase 8 years ago and never looked back

Back in 2016 I was living in Portland and had to choose between a big bank with a flashy app and a tiny credit union with maybe 3 branches in the whole state. I went with the credit union because they offered free checking with no minimum and actually picked up the phone when I called. 8 years later I've bought a house and two cars through them with zero headaches, so has anyone else found that smaller banks handle the big stuff way better?

Man, that's the thing about credit unions - they actually treat you like a person instead of a number. I've had similar luck with my local one, they caught a fraud charge the same day while my buddy at Bank of America was stuck waiting three weeks. So did you ever run into any situation where the credit union's smaller size actually caused a problem you had to work around?

My dad always swore by Chase and I thought he was right until I tried getting a car loan through them and they wanted my firstborn. Your story makes me wish I'd ditched the big banks way sooner.
