Surprised when my bank's new instant transfer feature took 3 days instead of seconds

My credit union rolled out this instant payment option last month and I figured I'd test it out sending $20 to my friend. I clicked the button and it said pending immediately, but then it just sat there for almost 72 hours. Called support and they said the system only works if both accounts are on the same payment network, which mine wasn't. Just a heads up for anyone else who might think instant means instant without checking the fine print first.

Man my buddy Dave tried the same thing with his credit union last month. He sent $50 to his brother for a pizza delivery and it said "processing" for two whole days. He ended up having to borrow cash from me just to pay the delivery guy when he showed up. The worst part was his brother's bank credited it back after three days saying it failed, then randomly the money showed up a week later in both accounts. He had to call support twice and they just kept saying the transaction was caught in a "network mismatch.

Dave down at the post office had a Zelle payment vanish into thin air for three weeks once... he ended up paying for his sister's birthday dinner twice by accident before it finally sorted itself out.
