Found a local library that still had a banned book on the shelf
I was looking for a copy of 'The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian' for a project and heard it was pulled from a lot of schools. On a whim, I checked the public library in a smaller town near me, Cedar Falls, and they had it right there in the teen section. The librarian said they keep a list of challenged titles and make a point to order them. Has anyone else found a library that does this kind of thing?

That's so cool they keep a list and order them on purpose. My friend had a similar thing happen last year. She was trying to find a graphic novel for her kid that got a lot of complaints at the school board meetings. Our main city branch was checked out, but she drove out to the county library in Springville. Not only did they have it, the children's librarian saw her looking and pointed out a whole display they had up for Banned Books Week. She said it made her feel like the library was on her side, you know? It's a good reminder that those quiet library buildings can be pretty brave places sometimes.

Yeah that "quiet but brave" thing is so true. It's easy to forget librarians are making a choice every time they put a book on the shelf. That display wasn't an accident, it was a statement. Good on them for taking a side.
