Unpopular opinion: some banned book lists do more good than harm

I know this community mostly sees censorship as a pure evil, but hear me out. Last month my nephew in Austin found 'The Hate U Give' on a local banned list and immediately went out to read it out of spite. Three years ago a mom in my neighborhood tried to get 'Captain Underpants' pulled from the school library, and suddenly every kid in the fourth grade was trading copies. Maybe the outrage and publicity are doing what the books were meant to do anyway, getting kids to question authority and talk about tricky subjects. Has anyone else seen a ban actually boost interest and fresh discussion instead of shutting it down?
