My fine-tuning run kept crashing until I set the gradient accumulation steps to 4

Try lowering your batch size to one.

Remembering a small town library in Ohio that pulled a book display I made

Read as a challenge" feels like a stretch. Could be someone just didn't like the poster being there, maybe it was on a board it wasn't supposed to be on. People take stuff down all the time for dumb reasons that have nothing to do with politics. Jumping to the idea that it's some big statement about fear of government seems like looking for drama where there might not be any.

Just realized my friend's 'fancy' dinner was cheaper than my usual takeout

It's not just about avoiding effort. The premium often pays for skill, tools, or consistency you don't have. I'll pay a guy to fix my sink because he has the right wrench and knows where the leak is, not because I'm lazy. My ten minutes would turn into a three hour mess and a bigger bill.

DAE forget to check the local grocery store for cheap meals?

Ugh that's the WORST feeling. I basically just wander into the first grocery store I see now, even if it's a little out of the way. The deli section is ALWAYS the real hidden gem.

A flash flood at the Mesa Verde dig site last spring washed out part of our trench.

I get the sandbag idea, but man, that sounds like a ton of extra work every single night. I've found that using longer, screw-in style stakes holds way better in mud than regular ones. The diversion trenches are smart, but I'd rather spend that time making sure my tarp is pitched really tight so water runs off fast. Have you tried those bigger stakes instead?
