Watched my library pull 14 books off the shelf in 2022, and the reason wasn't what I guessed
I volunteer at a small library branch in Boise and back in 2022 we had to yank 14 titles off the shelves in one week after a handful of complaints. I figured it was the usual stuff about language or violence, but almost all of them were pulled because of one line about a character's family history that somebody read as political. The weird part is the books were back within about 60 days, no hearing, no news, just quietly reshelved. Has anyone else seen a ban get reversed that fast without any public push?
I worked at a bookstore for years and we had the opposite thing happen, where a book got pulled and never came back and nobody ever told us why. We just got a note from corporate saying to send all copies back and that was it, no explanation, no timeline. The staff was left to guess and of course we all had our own theories and none of them matched up. I still wonder about that one, honestly, because it vanished in like a day and I never saw it on a shelf again. So hearing that yours came back in 60 days is kind of wild to me, since that quiet reversal almost never happens in my experience. Usually once something is gone, it stays gone, and everyone just pretends it was never there to begin with.
