Got banned from a local buy/sell page for calling out a fake charity raffle
Last week I saw a listing in a Facebook group for my town of Erie, PA, where some guy was selling "raffle tickets" for $20 each to help a sick kid, but the photo he used was a stock image I recognized from a news site. I commented that people should ask for the hospital name and a direct donation link before handing over cash, and within an hour I was removed from the group and blocked by the admin. I messaged the admin to ask why, and he replied "we don't allow drama here" and left it at that. Turns out the admin was the seller's cousin, which I only found out when a neighbor filled me in. Has anyone dealt with a mod protecting a scammer instead of just letting people warn each other?
That's not a buy/sell group, that's a family business. I bet the "we don't allow drama" rule only kicks in when someone points out the cousin's stock photo scam. Erie's small enough that word gets around though, so I'd just post the screenshots in whatever other local groups you're in and let people draw their own conclusion. The ban did you a favor, honestly, that group sounds like a flea market run by crooks.
