Wasted $60 on a 'premium' VPN that promised to protect my privacy. Then I got a cease-and-desist letter for posting a review about my landlord.
I shelled out for one of those big-name VPNs last month because I wanted to speak up about how my landlord was ignoring black mold in my unit. Figured I'd be safe. Posted a scathing but true review on a local tenant forum, and three days later I got a letter from his lawyer saying I was defaming him and to take it down or else. The VPN didn't do squat because the forum logged my IP anyway. Anyone else pay for a privacy tool that turned out to be useless when you actually needed it?

Yeah but you're blaming the wrong thing here. A VPN hides your traffic from your ISP, not from the website you're actually visiting - it's like putting on a disguise to walk into a bank and then being surprised they still have cameras inside.

Yeah I found a VPN plus a good ad blocker worked way better for me.
