Rant: Got permabanned from a hiking forum for saying trail runners aren't for everyone
I used to post on TrailTalk all the time, like 3 times a week for 2 years. Then I said in a thread that trail runners are overrated for rocky terrain and most people should stick with boots if they're doing 10+ miles in the Smokies. The mods banned me within an hour for 'promoting unsafe gear.' Now I just lurk on Reddit threads instead. Has anyone else gotten hit with a ban for a practical opinion about gear that the mods just didn't like?

Wait, you got banned for THAT? I used to think trail runners were the only way to go until I messed up my ankle on a granite scramble and now I swear by boots for anything serious.

Granite scrambles will humble you real quick, trail runners just can't get the bite on that smooth rock. A good pair of boots with a stiff sole and real Vibram lugs will save your ankles and your skin.
