My trick for reading banned memes from China? A photo of a QR code in a library book.
I was trying to get a meme about a cartoon bear that gets blocked in China, and every site that hosted it was down. I copied the image URL, ran it through a QR code maker, then printed it and taped it inside a used book I bought for $2 at a shop in Seattle. The scanner at the self checkout read it fine, but a librarian later told me the same trick got a guy banned from 3 libraries in Ohio. Does anyone know if that's a real story or just something people say?

Did you ever stop and think that story might be made up?
