Heard a teaching assistant say free speech is a privilege, not a right
I overheard a TA in the history lounge tell a freshman that free speech is a privilege universities give you, not something you're born with. That really got under my skin because it flips the whole First Amendment idea on its head. We have it specifically to protect unpopular views, not just the comfortable ones. Has anyone else run into faculty framing free speech as a campus favor instead of a constitutional protection?

Heard the exact same nonsense from a professor last semester. Drove me nuts.

Must be a requirement for professors to recycle the same tired arguments year after year, like they're getting paid by the cliché. Maybe there's a secret faculty meeting where they all swap their most eye-rolling material and agree to use it on rotation. At this point I'm convinced some of them just copy-paste their lectures from a 1995 textbook and call it a day. Did your professor at least try to dress it up with some fresh nonsense, or was it the same old script on autopilot?
