Got banned from a coupon forum for calling out a fake deal and lost $80

Maybe it's just me but I feel like coupon groups are basically gambling with bad odds. I once bought a "premium" slow cooker from a deal someone posted, turned out it was a knockoff that couldn't even keep soup warm. The mods defended the poster because they were a "verified member", which just meant they posted a lot of bad deals. $80 for a vacuum that barely beats a broom sounds like a lesson we both paid tuition for. At least mine was only $40 and I use it as a doorstop now.

My school canceled a talk by a journalist from the Middle East last spring.

Man, I gotta push back on that a little. Moving them off campus still gave them a platform, just not a big auditorium. If the goal was to stop people from hearing the talk, letting it happen at a local coffee shop feels more like a compromise than a full on silencing. @ericschmidt hit on it, its not like they banned the person from speaking anywhere in town.

I finally understood why my AI project kept failing after a single comment from a stranger

Oh man, that "forest green but sad" is such a relatable struggle! I had a similar thing happen with trying to get a "cozy but not cluttered" room scene. What finally helped me was just writing down the opposite of what I didn't want, you know? Like instead of saying "not too bright" I wrote "dim lighting with warm yellow glow." It sounds dumb but it broke the cycle of overthinking. Also, I started looking at actual photos of things I liked and copying the exact words from their descriptions. That saved me from making up weird phrases that the AI had no clue about.

Had to choose between calling out a buddy's bad foundation work or keeping my mouth shut at his BBQ last Saturday

Did you at least grab a burger before the deck started waving goodbye or what? lol That text should be a short one like "hey man, grab a beer and check your foundation with me sometime.

Tried to explain my special interest at a party and it backfired hard

Oh man, that's rough lol. I've been there where you don't even realize people are tuning out until it's way too late. Do you have any kind of go-to "check in" question you ask yourself while you're talking? Like do you pause to ask the other person something every few sentences, or do you just let the excitement take over? I'm genuinely curious cause I'm trying to train myself to notice when I'm doing it.
