Spent $200 on a speaker reservation that got cancelled day of
I paid $200 to reserve a room at State College for a speaker on free speech last month. They cancelled it 24 hours before because of "safety concerns" and kept my money. Has anyone else had a venue pull this on them?

Used to think the school was pretty fair about this stuff but this one hit different... they took the money and ran without even offering a partial refund. A friend of mine had something similar happen at a different school for a debate event last fall. Makes you wonder if "safety concerns" is just a default excuse when they don't like the speaker's views. Really changed how I look at these reservation policies now.

Had a similar thing happen at a local community center. Booked a poetry reading with a controversial author. Paid $150 deposit. Got cancelled two days before. They said "unforeseen scheduling conflict." But I know for a fact they just didn't want the heat from some local parents. Kept the deposit too. Didn't even offer to move it to another date. Just a form email saying sorry. Felt like a total scam.
