Was told to take down my sign at a campus protest for 'inciting' when it just quoted the school paper
Two weeks ago at a free speech event at Ohio State, a student group I help with got shut down by campus police after 20 minutes. My sign had one line from a 2021 student newspaper op-ed about tuition hikes, nothing else. An admin told me it could 'stir up conflict' and asked us to fold it up and leave. I get that schools want calm, but quoting their own paper back at them is the softest form of protest there is, so what exactly is the line here? If quoting a student op-ed counts as too much, what could we have even said?
