Serious question, has anyone else paid for a full year of a project management tool they didn't need?

Yeah, that Google Sheet thing is so real. I mean, I see people get sold on these big systems when half the time a simple checklist and a place to talk is all you need. It's like you're buying a whole factory when you just need a hammer and a notepad. Makes you wonder how much money is just sitting in unused software accounts.

Overheard a new hire call a manual 'an old PDF' and it hit me

That's the sound of the future arriving, and it sounds a lot like a kid calling a sacred text an old PDF. My own manual is more coffee and pen than paper at this point. Guess we're both dinosaurs, just with different extinction timelines.

Watched a team spend two weeks on a report no one will read

Focus on the summary page first, then build the rest as an appendix. That way the work isn't wasted if they only want the top numbers, but the full detail is there if someone needs it. It's a decent compromise for that kind of process rule.

I was at the library in Portland and saw a kid get his phone taken for using a VPN

Honestly, it sounds like the kid was just trying to get around the school's internet rules, not make some big stand for privacy. If it was a school device or network, they have every right to stop that. Calling a VPN a "basic privacy tool" in that setting feels like a stretch, lol. It's usually just for watching YouTube or whatever during class.

A client in Seattle had a weird reaction to a new serum last Tuesday

My cousin's "natural" face cream sent her to the ER with hives last year.
