Showerthought: The fade I did in 2012 would look like a helmet today.

Cleaned out some old photo albums and found a picture of a client from back then. His fade started at a 2 guard and went up to a 1. That was the standard. Now, if you don't blend from a skin taper into a 0.5, then a 1.5, then a 2, it looks blocky and unfinished. The whole game changed when those adjustable trimmers with the half guards got popular around 2015. What was the biggest shift in technique you've had to learn over the years?

It's just hair, it grows back. People get way too deep about fades. A bad haircut lasts a few weeks, then you try something else. The whole barber scene acts like we're doing brain surgery with clippers now.

Man, you're right about the half guards changing everything. It's not just about the cut lasting a few weeks like @reese_chen says, it's about the client's confidence right after they leave the chair. A bad line can mess with someone's whole vibe for those weeks, you know? The biggest shift for me was learning to use my mirror way more to check the back from every single angle.
