Got my 30 day mute on the hiking forum lifted after I picked between apologizing and doubling down
Last month a mod on TrailTalk muted me for 30 days over a post about trail etiquette near Flagstaff. I could have made a second account or just emailed a real apology, so I sent one short email admitting I was rude to a guy named Dave, no excuses attached. The mod lifted it in 4 days and even said most people just make new accounts. Anyone else had luck with the honest email route instead of going around a ban?
Watched my buddy get permabanned from a fishing forum for calling out some guy's "secret spot" that was literally a public pier. Instead of apologizing he spent three weeks making new accounts with names like ReelDeal42 and PierRat77, and the mods kept IP banning him within a day. Last I heard he was posting from his work laptop and his wife's iPad, still raging about it. The funny part is the original mod forgot about him after a month and probably would have let him back with one email. Some people just can't say two nice sentences to save their life.
