He told me to stop crowding the basket and cook in two batches, which takes longer. I tried it and they DID get crispier, but now I'm annoyed at the extra time. Is the crispiness worth the wait or is he just picky?

My brother-in-law said we should stop fixing old fridges because of the coolant rules

He's in HVAC and told me over dinner that the new EPA rules on R-134a make it not worth the hassle on units over 10 years old. I mean, I get the regs, but I've kept a lot of those old Kenmores running for folks on tight budgets. Do you guys think we're fighting a losing battle with the older stuff now?

My weirdest cheap meal win was a can of chickpeas and a packet of taco seasoning

I mean, I was broke last Thursday and my pantry was basically empty except for these things. I just drained the chickpeas, mashed them up a bit in a pan with the seasoning and some water, and cooked it for like 10 minutes. It made a shockingly decent filling for three tacos with some old lettuce. Has anyone else tried something this random that actually worked out okay?

Pro tip: I was cleaning my ladle wrong for years until a new guy pointed it out.

I always used a wire brush and water to clean the slag out after a pour, thinking a quick scrub was enough. This new hire, a quiet guy from the Toledo plant, just watched me one day and said, 'You're leaving a glaze, that's why your next pour sticks.' He showed me using a dry, coarse grit stone first to really break it up. Has anyone else found a better method for getting that ladle truly clean?

I always figured censored art was just old political stuff, then I saw the 2018 Chinese edits to Bohemian Rhapsody

I compared the original film to the version shown in China, and the difference was huge. They cut every single reference to Freddie Mercury being gay and having AIDS, over 2 minutes total. I used to think censorship was about blocking obvious propaganda, but this was about erasing a person's identity from a biopic. It made me see how modern censorship targets LGBTQ+ stories specifically, not just old books. Has anyone else seen a recent movie get edited that heavily for a foreign release?

I got banned from a big car forum for saying I liked the old Ford Ranger better than the new one

I posted a long list of reasons, like the 2011 model's simple frame and how cheap parts were. I said the new one felt like a fancy truck for people who don't actually haul stuff. A mod said I was 'spreading negativity' and banned me for a week. Has anyone else been banned for just preferring an older version of something?

One rough chair taught me to always fill oak grain

I always skipped grain filling on oak to cut corners. The stain would soak in unevenly and look blotchy. A client pointed out the rough patches on a chair I did. Now I force myself to fill the grain every time. The finish comes out perfectly smooth. It takes more time, but the quality improvement is obvious. My reviews have gotten better since I made this change.
